* PRC - MT DOJ, Children's Justice Bureau

Human trafficking is tied as the second largest and is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world, generating roughly $32 billion each year. The primary indicator of human trafficking is child poverty, with the national average of human trafficking victims being between 12 and 14 years old. Adults living in poverty with children seldom have the resources to provide daycare or babysitters, often leaving young children without adequate supervision during non-school hours. This lack of supervision makes children vulnerable to human traffickers who will often promise material things as a way out of poverty, and to gain trust with their victims. With the national average of human trafficking victims being 12-14 years old, victims who do manage to escape their captors risk living in poverty themselves due to the lack of education, support, and job opportunities available to victims who were taken at that age. Increases in attention and funding to the issue of human trafficking have increased providers needs in areas of training to provide the most appropriate services. There are many trainings and efforts to identify appropriate resources; however, there has been a lack of coordination to streamline and measure these efforts. The Children’s Justice Bureau receives contacts for training and has served as an information coordinator. More organization is required to assist victims more effectively.
