'24 PCEI: Heyburn State Park Interp & Education Specialist
 
 
 
EXPAND YOUR CONSERVATION CAREER ALONG THE SHORES OF LAKE COEUR D'ALENE IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST'S OLDEST STATE PARK! Heyburn & McCroskey State Parks are seeking an applicant for a 675-hour AmeriCorps position who loves the outdoors & is passionate about improving recreational, natural, historical, & cultural experiences & opportunities for others. In this position, our AmeriCorps member would ensure that our parks remain significant, accessible, & relevant to the citizens of Idaho and visitors from around the nation & world. They will achieve this through: 1) Enhancing park land, 2) Enriching educational opportunities, 3) Building volunteer capacity, 4) Strengthening community outreach. At Heyburn & McCroskey State Parks, our member will receive a comprehensive education in the parks system management & accomplish tasks that go far beyond an entry level park position. A member will accomplish this through: ¿Creating, expanding & offering educational programs, ¿Leading/assisting in Heyburn’s interpretive program, ¿Developing interpretive programs/materials for McCroskey, ¿Creating cohesive volunteer program management materials, ¿Working alongside Park Rangers & other Park staff. Members are also engaged in direct land management through the enhancement of park lands by developing nature trails, managing invasive species, restoring native ecosystems, & conducting other outdoor activities. Member Duties : Member duties: transplant native plants; manage invasive weeds; develop/improve trails systems; lead interpretive tours & hikes; improve/create educational displays; expand service-learning opportunities; manage volunteer programs; represent state parks at community events; completing other projects that align your specific skill/interests w/park needs. REQUIREMENTS:•Must be U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident. •Must possess valid driver’s license/clean driving record.•Must possess high school diploma/equivalent.•Must be fluent in English.•Must be able to commit to full term of service.•Must successfully pass fingerprint background check. PREFERRED SKILLS:•Experience working w/children & young adults.•Comfortable working in office setting & outdoors in all weather conditions.•Interpretation experience and/or experience leading groups independently.•Experience w/safe use of hand/power tools.•Knowledge of construction, plumbing &/or electrical trades.
