2024 PCEI: Castle Rocks SP Interp & Education Specialist
 
 
 
SHARE YOUR PASSION FOR INTERPRETATION & EDUCATION AMONGST GIANT GRANITE MONOLITHS IN ALMO, IDAHO! City of Rocks National Reserve & Castle Rocks State Park are seeking an applicant (for a 1200-hour AmeriCorps position) who loves the outdoors & is passionate about creating, implementing, & leading interpretive programs in person or virtually, as well as updating & creating interpretive materials for the parks. At City of Rocks National Reserve & Castle Rocks State Park, our AmeriCorps member will receive education about parks system management as well as have opportunities for training and developing professional skills. The AmeriCorps member will work alongside the Visitor Services Ranger & Chief of Interpretation to enhance and strengthen interpretation & education in the park. The AmeriCorps member will also build relationships w/community members & volunteers to accomplish goals for the interpretive plan. REQUIREMENTS: Must be U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident; Must possess valid driver’s license & clean driving record; Must possess high school diploma/equivalent; Must be able to commit to the full term of service; Must successfully pass fingerprint background check; Must have cooperative manner & ability to serve as part of diverse team; Must have regular & reliable attendance & dependability. MEMBER BENEFITS: A taxable, monthly living allowance ($10,200 total, paid over term of service); An education award of $3,447.50 upon successful completion of term of service; Loan forbearance; Basic medical insurance for those who qualify; Childcare allowance for those who qualify; Professional development, trainings & networking opportunities. Member Duties : MEMBER ACTIVITIES/DUTIES: Leading interpretive tours, nature walks, & hikes; Creating educational displays for visitor center & interpretive trails; Expanding service-learning opportunities for local students; Planning & overseeing service days; Recruiting for/managing volunteer programs; Representing state parks at community events; Hosting community events at the parks; Other projects that align your skills & interests w/park needs. PREFERRED SKILLS: Experience working w/children & young adults; Comfortable working in office setting & outdoors in all weather; Interpretation experience &/or experience leading groups independently; Willingness to be effective storyteller & share information about projects you're involved w/on social media. PROJECT LOCATION/TRANSPORT NEEDS: Use of personal vehicle is required for reliable travel to host site. Park vehicles provided during working hours. DATES OF SERVICE: Full-time: 6 months, btwn March 2024 - August 2024 (specific dates TBD).
