2019-2020 City of Las Vegas Youth Success VISTA

As Nevada voted to legalize the recreational use of marijuana in 2016, there has been concern over the welfare of youth. Even if legalization is restricted to adults 21+, there are potential direct effects on this age group since they are at a critical period of brain maturation in which marijuana use can have lifelong adverse effects. Concerns are tied to the issue of not having a campaign for adolescents to educate on the facts of the substance, its long- term health effects and legal consequences. In addition, compared to the rest of the country, Nevada’s youth is in the worst tier for cocaine use, illicit drug dependence or abuse and illicit drug dependence. The goal the marketing educational campaign is to empower youth to prevent the initiation of marijuana, opioids and other controlled substances to enable them to achieve in school and pursue paths to grow into self-sufficient adults.
