WSU VISTA - Children First Development VISTA
 
 
 
Children First serves seven neighborhoods; however, most of the organization’s resources are focused to provide for low-income students in four inner-city schools with a high percentage of student’s living in poverty. Since 2017, Children First CEO Kansas Inc. mission is to support students to feel safe and empowered, so they can learn and thrive, by staying in school and achieving in life. The VISTA role will be fund development through implementation of the Benevon model. Children First receives funds through contracts and grants; however, the organization needs to grow unrestricted funds to pay for non-grant funded salaries (Executive Director, Garden staff, etc.) and other program expenses. Kathleen Webb has experience with the Benevon model however Children First needs a VISTA to manage most of the details and grow the organization’s capacity. Specifically, the VISTA will be: 1) Participating as a key member of the fundraising work group to develop and implement the Benevon fundraising model; 2) Designing a communication plan to promote the organization, as well as identify “Connectors” (people who have a wide network of friends) using a LinkedIn/Alignable strategy, improving Facebook messaging, and other social media with development of a monthly communication tool; 3) Using the Benevon model (a national fundraising system), design printed materials, set up a zoom or in-person meetings for the Executive Director (and eventually other “presenters”), schedule and assist Connectors will their individuals “point of entry” events (first-time event to learn about the organization), plan and implement the 2022 Ask Event; 4) Recording interactions with contact in Bloomerang, the organization’s donor management system; 5) Improving overall donor communications and recognition; and 6) Securing photo releases and taking photos for communications.

Member Duties : The primary duties will be 1) Develop one strategic communication plan with messages for a variety of formats (e.g., LinkedIn, Connector engagement, monthly communications, etc.) and data management: 2) Create and manage at least twelve Connector events; 3) Manage social media and other communication projects; and 4) Manage the Ask Event (Annually Children First will create an “ask event” to ask donors for funds).
