WSU VISTA - Center for Public Health Initiatives
 
 
 
The goal of the Center for Public Health Initiatives team is to improve the health of Kansans through public health systems change and building the capacity of local and state partners to serve their communities. The VISTA will support efforts build a strong network of community health workers in Kansas. Additionally, the VISTA will build capacity for state and local governmental public health departments, statewide and local health coalitions and community groups to center equity and to address the social determinants of health in their health-related programs, services and initiatives. Specifically, the VISTA will coordinate research, education and capacity-building activities to improve the health and well-being of Kansans. The VISTA’s work will include coordination of key activities to support workforce development for community health workers, public health practitioners and public health-focused organizations in Kansas. Wichita, Kansas (population 400,000) is a thriving city in the heart of the United States. Wichita is home to many exciting attractions and museums including the seventh-largest zoo in the United States and the state’s most-visited outdoor attraction, the Sedgwick County Zoo. Wichita is the biggest city in Kansas; featuring over 1,000 restaurants. Wichita is home to the famous chain, Pizza Hut. The original Pizza Hut building is featured on the Wichita State University campus where upwards of 15,000 Shockers attend. You’ll find unending family-fun and educational experiences in every neighborhood of the city, jam-packed with cultural experiences, shopping and delicious local restaurants. Member Duties : -- Support workforce development programs for community health workers in Kansas. -- Support workforce development programs for state and local public health workforce. -- Advocate for community health workers and community health work as a profession. -- Advocate for public health workers and public health as a profession. Build capacity of the Kansas public health system through developing community health worker infrastructure. --Build capacity of the Kansas public health system to impact health by addressing the social determinants of health and health equity. -- Research Medicaid data and develop timely reports.
