2017 Centro Hispano's Volunteer and Event Planning VISTA

In the midst of one of the most cultural diverse neighborhoods in Madison, you will find Centro Hispano, one of the largest non-profits serving the ever changing Latino community for more than 30 years. Centro's goal is to improve the quality of life for Latinos and others living in Dane County by empowering youth, strengthening families, and engaging the community. Centro Hispano is going through an organizational awakening and new leadership, which are fueling its momentum to improve and expand current programs. To achieve such ambitious tasks we are going to reshape our current volunteer and event planning program. The goal is to develop a tangible, efficient, and sustainable program which will streamline Centro's capacities to recruit, train, retain, and empower volunteers. This position will have unique opportunity to be involved with all programs, events of Centro and fully connect with other community organizations. In addition, the VISTA will work closely with the Marketing Development Specialist and the Community Engagement Specialist in developing and promoting fundraising activities to help diversify funding sources. This VISTA position will be high pace and full of opportunities to be creative and think-out-side the box.

Member Duties : Centro Hispano's leadership, staff, and community are moving forward to make this organization a hub for the ever-evolving Latino community in the city. This growth will not happen without the active participation of skilled volunteers. Hence, this VISTA will be fundamental in the reshaping of a high priority program and will be expected to have a constant work load through the year, increasing during the planning of three big events: 1) Día de los Reyes in January, 2) Fiesta Hispana in September, and 3) Annual Banquet in November. Other activities include: development and delivering of a training manual for Centro's volunteers, create a volunteer database to help match staff and programmatic needs with volunteer's skills, meet with Marketing Development and Community Engagement Specialist to strategize marketing, fundraising, outreach, and volunteers' needs. This position is great for someone with leadership and facilitation skills, creative, and pop-corn-like thinker!
