2017-18 Volunteer Iowa:Governor's Fellow on Opioid Addiction
 
 
 
A VISTA is needed to serve the state of Iowa’s OUD prevention and treatment providers through development and implementation of outreach and marketing plans, community strategic plans, as well as data collection and reporting. VISTA capacity-building efforts as well as community providers providing new or increasing services will enable them to better serve those without the financial means to purchase services. The VISTA will perform their duties with Program staff including project directors for opioid grants and other subject matter experts in areas of treatment, prevention, and date management. In the Iowa Department of Public Health, the Bureau of Substance Abuse focuses on and provides oversight for all aspects related to substance abuse prevention and treatment services in Iowa. The bureau actively works to address Prevention and Treatment needs by providing focus for training efforts, identifying and securing available grant funding, monitoring grant compliance, and regulating the licensing of treatment programs. The opioid related programs include grant-funding for the following: Medication Assisted Treatment, Strategic Prevention Framework: Prescription Drugs, Opioid Treatment Programs, Access to Recovery, among others. Bureau programs and staff collaborate with other state and local partners on many substance use related issues. The VISTA will serve as a part of Volunteer Iowa's Rural Development and Opioid AmeriCorps VISTA Project. Volunteer Iowa is a state agency whose mission is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering. VISTA members with our program have the benefit of a statewide support network of ICVS staff, Commissioners, National Service Programs, fellow AmeriCorps VISTA members and a VISTA Leader. Members receive ongoing training, support, networking, and professional development opportunities.

Member Duties : The Governor's Fellow VISTA will serve the state of Iowa’s OUD prevention and treatment providers through development and implementation of plans to coordinate services related to opioid problems. VISTA activities will include: lead the development of community/regional strategic plans regarding the coordination of opioid-related services; assist in the development and implementation of outreach and marketing plans regarding the prevention and treatment of opioid use disorder services among the statewide network of providers; interview providers and stakeholders to identify gaps, needs and priorities; recruit and engage committed partners; compile a database of current efforts for a baseline. Please submit your application by January 3rd to be fully considered.
