Financial Stability VISTA

The Village VISTA Collaborative, a VISTA project sponsored by the Village for Children and Families in Hartford, Connecticut, will place four VISTAs in three assignments that address financial literacy and the opioid crisis. VISTAs will grow the capacity of several programs of the Village. VISTAs will serve low-income communities of Hartford and Vernon, Connecticut. The Village’s current strategic plan includes goals to enhance care coordination throughout our network of programs. To this end, we are seeking to promote productive connections across services to ensure clients’ identified needs are effectively met, specifically in our family center programs. The Financial Center provides a variety of services including financial literacy, financial coaching (i.e. budgeting, savings plans), housing and employment services. The Village has been operating the Financial Center and Volunteer Income Tax for five and four years respectively. We believe that reducing financial vulnerability in low-income households requires financial knowledge, the capacity to manage personal finances, and access to affordable, beneficial financial products. The Financial Center has successfully aided families in reducing debt, increasing savings, and purchasing assets that build long-term financial stability. Bridging services with other programs The Village offers will provide more holistic services and long term solutions to eradicate poverty.
