Community Outreach Specialist: Expanding Senior Resources

Our Expanding Senior Resources team includes six VISTA members who work with Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) to provide community outreach, education, and development in an assigned region of the state. AAAs provide support and referrals to older Iowans, Iowans with disabilities, and military Veterans who require home and community based services to remain independent. Members may also be asked to conduct outreach for agency-specific initiatives and recruit volunteers. Members are placed within AAAs in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Davenport, and Mason City. Placement at a satellite office may be considered. Occasional travel into rural areas of the state is expected, and mileage reimbursement is available. Experience in health, human services, marketing/PR or a related field is preferred, but not required. Motivated, creative individuals with a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply. We are currently accepting applications for VISTAs to serve in Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, and Mason City (Carroll, Ft. Dodge, and Spencer may also be considered) beginning in June of 2016.

Member Duties : Members will research, develop, and implement a regional community outreach and education strategy for the Area Agencies on Aging. This may include design and delivery of materials, press information, presentations, and resource fairs, as well as interacting with the community to disseminate this information. All of our VISTA team members collaborate to ensure relative consistency in outreach design and delivery. Members will also assist with volunteer recruitment, special events, and other outreach initiatives for their Area Agency on Aging (such as Senior Medicare Patrol, Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers, Home-Delivered Meals, etc.). Some regional travel will be required, so a reliable personal vehicle is strongly encouraged.
