*MTCC - Health Promotion Disease Prevention- Education

This VISTA project will move low-income K-12 students out of poverty by providing them with needed educational enrichment to help them graduate high school, seek out post-secondary education, and secure jobs. The mission of the HPDP Wellness Program is to restore the traditional values of the Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes, and to help our communities return to a healthier lifestyle. The graduation rate on the Fort Peck reservation is around 60%, well below the state average. This project will encourage and prepare students to seek degrees in healthcare to advance their careers and also the Fort Peck reservation: more Native American health care professionals can provide culturally appropriate healthcare to the community in great need of these services. The VISTA will create and implement a college readiness and health careers curriculum in the Fort Peck reservation schools.
