Boys/Girls Clubs So. Cal. College Access Program Leader

Based at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica, the VISTA Leader would work with a VISTA supervisor to create and build sustainability of college/post secondary access programs for underserved middle and high school students served at 22 Boys and Girls Clubs across Southern California, from Bakersfield to San Diego. The Boys & Girls Clubs enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. At a very minimal cost to families, the Clubs serve those who otherwise would not have opportunities for academic success, struggling students from low income, disadvantaged situations. This program focuses on middle and high school grade level students. The goal is to make entrance into post-secondary education a reality to those who otherwise would not have the opportunity by fostering a college going culture. Members are provided with weekly college workshops, field trips to colleges, one on one case management and daily tutoring. Some participants will be the first in their family to graduate from high school and are from low income families. The VISTA Leader will place a critical role in helping VISTA members accomplish their goals at each site. The Leader will help with VISTA member development and training and support sites. The goal of a VISTA Leader is to expand and build the capacity of the VISTAs they lead through facilitative communication with VISTA members as well as VISTA supervisors in their region. While leaders do not supervise VISTAs, they play a strategic role in assisting project supervisors with member support, recruitment, retention, and performance.
