ProjectIndy Program Coordinator

The Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee (GIPC) was created in 1965 to convene public & private leaders to advance initiatives that improve our city. Our offices are located in the heart of downtown in the City-County Building, the hub of local government. This VISTA position will help administer ProjectIndy, Mayor Hogsett’s summer youth employment initiative that serves as not only an economic boost to youth experiencing barriers to employment but also as a crime prevention tool in struggling neighborhoods. The VISTA will work with the three convening partners [GIPC, EmployIndy, & the Marion County Commission on Youth] to build capacity from the 1000 jobs offered in 2016 to 2000 jobs to be offered in 2017. The VISTA will convene partner agencies regularly & support them in completing their assigned action items. The VISTA will coordinate outreach to employers to identify existing job opportunities & their needs in creating more; the VISTA will raise & manage resources to equip employers to do just that. Through social media, visits to schools & job fairs, & outreach to community-based organizations, the VISTA will engage youth, helping them connect to available job opportunities. The VISTA will plan at least two events: an end-of-summer celebration for program participants & an employer retreat. The VISTA will develop a series of metrics to evaluate program success & present solutions for identified program gaps. The program will run 06/05/2017 to 05/25/2018. For more information, visit indygipc.org. Indianapolis continues to be a growing, thriving city, thanks to residents who work hard, welcome all, & are eager to share the best of the city with newcomers. There is plenty to do, see, & contribute to here, & we would love a VISTA to be part of our efforts to improve life in Indianapolis for all its residents.
