International Institute - Medical & Child Serv
 
 
 
Serving at the International Institute of St. Louis provides Members with a wide variety of experiences and opportunities for growth. During the 11 month program, a total of 6 AmeriCorps State Members will be serving in various capacities at the agency. Along with providing direct services to newly arrived refugees from various countries and ethnicities, Members will actively participate in annual agency events such as the Festival of Nations and assist with volunteer recruitment activities. Member training activities will include an initial orientation, CPR/First Aid certification, disaster preparedness, professional development, Life-After AmeriCorps, the Show-Me Conference and more. Members will also serve the greater St. Louis community through service days such as MLK Day. Speaking a language used by clients is not a requirement, but can be helpful.

Member Duties : The MEDICAL AND CHILD SERVICES MEMBER will assist refugee families in setting up medical appointments, enroll clients in benefits programs and enroll children in school and daycare. AmeriCorps members do not provide health services related to prohibited items. The Member will take part in major refugee resettlement functions such as airport pick-ups and initial home orientation. The Member will serve on the Children's Holiday Party planning committee; and provide skills training as needed. Need regular access to a car and willingness to transport clients. Will need to obtain a Class E license in order to drive agency vehicles. Estimated time driving related to service: 4-6 HOURS PER WEEK. Level of client contact: MEDIUM. Part-time employment allowed on weekends and no more than two evenings per week
