This VISTA project will seek to link community-minded volunteers with community-based agencies fighting poverty, develop the educational and economic skill-sets and opportunities of citizens who live in poverty, and provide housing, transportation and food assistance to individuals living in poverty. VISTA members will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as recruiting and managing volunteers for over 65 local agencies within Oktibbeha County, and assisting with the development of educational programs, food security programs, housing programs, public transportation awareness programs, and financial literacy programs that assist individuals living in poverty. VISTA members will be mitigating poverty in Oktibbeha County and Starkville, Mississippi, over the course of the program. VISTAs will be coordinated through the Maroon Volunteer Center at Mississippi State University.
