2015-16 Habitat Construction Systems VISTA, Madison, WI

Nearly 20% of Wisconsin residents pay more than 50% of their family income for housing. With a large and growing need for affordable housing in our state, the 40 local Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Wisconsin are working hard to address that need by partnering with low-income families to build, rehab or repair homes. Habitat for Humanity's vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live, and we believe in the value of home ownership, both for Wisconsin's families and for the communities in which they live. Habitat for Humanity of Wisconsin (HFH-WI) exists to support Habitat for Humanity affiliates throughout the state of Wisconsin in a coordinated effort to eliminate substandard housing. Our goal is to strengthen affiliates and increase capacity, which ultimately benefits low income families in our state. Our statewide VISTA project will help local affiliates build capacity within their organizations and assist them in serving more low income families, providing decent, affordable housing to help families build wealth and break the cycle of poverty, for themselves and future generations.

Member Duties : VISTA Member will: explore the construction processes and systems that are currently in place at the site and identify best practices from other programs; develop and document an enhanced construction operations plan that will address the needs of the host site. The plan should address construction prep, planning and scheduling, home repairs, green building and work site safety, as well as other areas of need discovered during the exploration phase; implement the new construction operations program. Assist the site in testing and evaluating the various parts of the program developed and make revisions to the program as needed in order to ensure success. Interviews are done on a rolling basis.
