2015-16 Green Lake County Food Security
 
 
 
The AmeriCorps*VISTA member will partner with other UW-Extension staff, agencies and non-profit organizations to create or expand programs focused on addressing food security issues in Green Lake County. Specifically the AmeriCorps*VISTA member will: Partner with Green Lake County Health and Human services to conduct a needs assessment of the current Green Lake County Food Pantry and exploring options to expand volunteer opportunities and increase food supplies. Coordinate educational opportunities focused on assisting food pantry participants (through volunteers) in making economical choices in planning and preparing meals. Gather resources for the development of youth and family gardening programs and other educational activities that help build capacity for participants to grow and/or prepare their own food. Coordinate volunteers to educate the general public on food security issues including eligibility requirements and ways people can volunteer to help. Participate in community groups that are focused on food security issues.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps*VISTA member will partner with other UW-Extension staff, agencies and other non-profit organizations to create or expand programs focused on food security issues. Specifically they will conduct a needs assessment of the Green Lake County Food Pantry and then recruit and train volunteers to meet those identified needs. In addition, they will serve as a resource to individuals and organizations who are interested in starting gardens focused on food production. Finally, they will serve as an educational resource to organizations who are interested in learning more about food security issues in Green Lake County.
