Ending Hunger Corps - DACF Senior Programming VISTA

The DACF Senior Programming VISTA will build capacity within the Maine Senior Farmshare Program [“MSFP”] and Commodity Supplemental Food Program [“CSFP”] by identifying methods to increase participation by and greater food access for eligible Mainers in both programs, through marketing and increased efficiency. Maine Senior Farmshare provides eligible Mainers with a “share” - $50 worth - of fresh, local produce from Maine farmers at no cost, while Commodity Supplemental Food Program provides low income elderly people with USDA nutritious foods. The Senior Programming VISTA will survey MSFP current and eligible participants and farmers to develop recommendations that enable better service to both MSFP participants and farmers. Working with CSFP’s statewide panel, the VISTA will promote collaboration between CSFP and MSFP in order to build the capacity of both programs, looking for overlap between MSFP and CSFP participant application processes to minimize barriers, identify co-eligibility opportunities and co-recruit participants. In building collaboration, the VISTA will employ Geographical Information Services [“GIS”] tools to ensure regional coverage of program implementation, with a goal of coordinating sites to be jointly used by both CSFP and MSFP to maximize resources and increase the population served.
