CCMA Loyola Community School Capacity Builder

Loyola University enhances capacity for youth development and education by working closely with local public schools in the Govans community. The schools are in a state of transition. Through the 21st Century Schools process, two of the local public schools are being reconstructed. Through this position, the AmeriCorps VISTA will support healthy transition during reconstruction at Walter P. Carter and Guilford Elementary/Middle Schools and engage students, teachers, staff, and community in planning for a positive school culture and climate in the new school building.

Member Duties : Loyola University Maryland is seeking a VISTA member to serve as a Community School Capacity Builder with its York Road Community Initiative. The Initiative supports community and youth development efforts in the York Road neighborhoods and schools just east of Loyola’s main campus, including supporting after school programming and recreation centers. The VISTA will function as a core part of the York Road team, devoted to building an engaged and empowered community of businesses, institutions, and residents focused on efforts to strengthen the area and its commercial corridor. The VISTA will attend and actively participate in meetings of allied groups and provide outreach, program support, and assistance, including administrative, organizational, and volunteer management, including students and people of all ages. Write weekly and quarterly reports, training sessions and meetings, create a legacy manual, and participate in service activities
