Civic Engagement VISTA - MNA
 
 
 
The MNA CE VISTA will: • Address College Access & Success, by engaging in counseling, academic, enrollment, and retention support activities for economically disadvantaged K-12 students and first-generation college students. • Assist in the development and implementation of strategies which promote a lifelong ethic of civic engagement that increases the efforts of Michigan Nonprofit Association and impacts the nonprofit sector can have in their local communities. The VISTA member will be responsible for the following: • Assist MiCC staff to develop readiness activities for pilot host campus, which include: o Assessment and preparation related to 7 essential program features o Faculty orientation to the model o Cultivation and development of meaningful service opportunities to build into classrooms through partnership with local nonprofits • Assist with setting up campus Peer Advocate support systems and resources o Assist with planning and development of Peer Advocate recruitment, training and orientation (defined national model) o Facilitate shared leadership models on campuses (faculty members and peer advocates as program partners) • Assisting with updating the “Lifelong Civic Engagement Guide” that is used to increase knowledge of how individuals engage in communities throughout their lifetime. • Developing presentations and materials for meetings and trainings. • Providing support to research initiatives to promote an understanding of the nonprofit sector, volunteerism, and civic engagement. • Writing related updates for various communications venues including the MNA website, MI Nonprofit News, blogs, etc. • Performing other duties as assigned.
