Brown University's goal is to create a sustainable and impactful relationship between the Brown Teacher Education Program and four local, urban, high-poverty secondary schools in order to achieve our mission of social justice and equity. Our VISTA will be an important part of the team and will enhance resources and services that contribute to improved educational outcomes for economically disadvantaged youth. We will focus on developing resources for program development, classroom support, summer learning, and classroom teaching. The main focus of the AmeriCorps VISTA will be researching, analyzing, and implementing programs and processes for educational impact and poverty alleviation. Our ideal member will have Spanish language proficiency. experience with and commitment to low-income communities of color, or interest in culturally responsive learning and multilingual learner instruction. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide professional development opportunities via conferences, a public transportation pass, access to professional development & training opportunities. The AmeriCorps member serving at Brown University will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and to share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year. Member Duties : Use research, data collection, analysis, and distribution of results to design and recommend effective programming. The focal responsibility will be to research, analyze and recommend next steps based on the research cycle. Attend meetings to establish priorities, share information, establish processes and leverage grant opportunities that align with stakeholder needs and assets. Research, compile, and disseminate materials related to academic engagement, culturally relevant learning and multilingual learning. Create recruitment pipelines and innovative approaches to expand the scale and reach of a summer enrichment program to more low-income students who could benefit from the program.
