VYT-Chittenden Solid Waste District VISTA

PROGRAM: The VT Youth Tomorrow AmeriCorps VISTA Program supports initiatives helping low-income youth & families develop job skills & academic proficiency, build connection to their community, access health & mental health care, find housing, become food secure, and connect with essential services needed to transcend poverty, avoid unhealthy behaviors, reverse the impacts of COVID-19, and ultimately thrive. Website: www.vermontyouthamericorps.org SITE: CSWD operates six Drop-Off Centers throughout Chittenden County, where residents can bring trash, blue bin recycling, food scraps and more. CSWD operates a Hazardous Waste collection facility in Chittenden County, as well as Green Mountain Compost, a resource for local businesses and organizations to safely dispose of their food residuals. Finally, CSWD hosts community outreach and education to all residents, businesses, organizations, and schools based in Chittenden County. To make sure low-income families develop the resiliency that they need to transcend poverty and thrive, including COVID-19 impacts, the VYT VISTA at Chittenden Solid Waste District builds the capacity of Wellness, Communications, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs by developing resources, creating community assessment plans, and conducting outreach to the community. The service of this AmeriCorps VISTA will help create a foundation to ensure that all residents of our county are being served to the best of our organization’s capacity but outlining best practices, examining methods, and evaluating results. The AmeriCorps’ service will also enable us to better serve our employees by establishing improved and expanded resources for employee wellness. By creating this foundation, the AmeriCorps VISTA will enable the staff at CSWD to build and grow, be adaptable and flexible, and improve effectiveness and efficiency. Location: South Burlington
