EPNI - VISTA Tenant Organizer ($350/month rent stipend)

Elliot Park Neighborhood, Inc (EPNI) seeks a VISTA Tenant Organizer to inform and activate at-risk renters to preserve their affordable homes and prevent displacement. The VISTA will strengthen existing tenant associations, increase tenant participation in decision-making that affects housing stability, support 1-2 buildings in creating tenant associations, and build capacity for continued tenant organizing. EPNI serves residents in the unique setting of downtown Minneapolis. EPNI's mission is to build community vitality by connecting and empowering neighbors. Our main goals are to: 1) improve quality of life for our residents, 2) strengthen community voice in decision- making, 3) protect the diversity of our neighborhood, and 4) preserve existing affordable housing alongside residents threatened by displacement. EPNI currently focuses on three main issue areas: supporting renters, influencing development, and securing access to fresh, healthy and affordable food. The Elliot Park neighborhood is facing tremendous change with relentless development and displacement pressure. Your project will build on previous organizing efforts to strengthen existing tenant associations, increase tenant participation in decision-making that affects housing stability, support buildings in creating tenant associations, and build capacity for continued tenant organizing. EPNI seeks a relational, compassionate, organized, self-starter to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience and skills in community organizing, leadership, writing/editing, Somali language. We are open to meeting individuals with a variety of experiences and encourage anyone interested and passionate about this work to apply. EPNI is a small organization, and our team members are encouraged to learn and participate in areas outside of their role to gain a broader understanding of non-profit and community work. EPNI offers an additional housing stipend of up to $350 per month.
