CPCDC Engagement Initiative: Outreach VISTAs

The Centennial Parkside CDC Engagement Initiative will create sustainable and adaptable communications channels between community-serving organizations and neighborhood residents, as well as amongst residents and other community members. A key aspect of long-term sustainability is centering community inclusion and leadership, with the goal of facilitating community ownership of the programs and tools that enable these programs to operate. Centennial Parkside CDC’s approach to anti-poverty work is strongly rooted in the belief that with the right resources, the right information, the privilege of time, and direct access to folks in policy decision making positions, residents can and should have agency and sovereignty to grow equitably thriving communities. We believe that living in a deeply connected, caring and cared for community prevents individuals and families from falling into poverty. Communities that are cared for and resourced are more able to care for themselves and each other; are more able to focus on dismantling systems that negatively impact their lives. A healthy and connected community is able to advocate for change while continuing to care for each other, strengthening the collective capacity for greater impact. Within this work, each VISTA Member will have specific responsibilities related to in-person outreach, social media and general communications, documentation, data management, curriculum design (among others) to operationalize the outreach and engagement infrastructure. Members will develop partnerships that assist with connecting community residents to resources for housing and financial services. Members will also work with the East Parkside Community Development Board to promote participation in community planning, neighborhood development review, and knowledge and skill building activities.

Member Duties : Centennial Parkside CDC will host 4 AmeriCorps VISTA members who will work as a collaborative team to build the capacity for our organization to effectively engage community members and connect them to resources, services, and opportunities. For the first year of this project VISTA members will work closely with the Director of Equitable Development to achieve two priorities: Connect residents with resources that will help them gain financial and housing security. Engage community members in developing a collective vision for community development that will benefit all residents. Outreach: 2 VISTA members will focus on increasing organizational capacity to directly engage residents in-person and in virtual spaces, and connect them with CPCDC and partner programming and resources. The overall goal is to connect with as many residents as possible through targeted outreach and engagement. Ideally at least one of these VISTA members has close ties to the East Parkside area.
