UCA - 4-H Program Youth Mentor

United Communities AmeriCorps (UCA) engages members in meaningful service designed to meet critical community needs in Coos, Douglas, Jackson and Josephine counties in beautiful Southern Oregon. UCA partners with community-based organizations, government agencies and schools to address needs relating to education, healthy futures and economic opportunity. UCA members serve full-time for 5 months, totaling 900 hours for the term of service. Our positions have benefits (e.g. $2,865 education award, monthly stipend, training opportunities, etc.) For more information and full position descriptions, visit our website at www.ucancap.org/americorps. Interviews for all of our open positions will be conducted on a rolling basis as qualified candidates are identified, and selection may be made prior to the application deadline. Early application is strongly encouraged. Oregon State University Extension's 4-H Program Youth Mentor will provide hands-on educational activities with youth grades K-12 in Douglas County with the main focus on younger children ages 5-8 years of age. Activities would include educational programming including healthy living, natural resources, and science based activities. A majority of the activities will take place in a club type setting focusing on Cloverbuds (5-8 year olds). The member will also assist in building a sustainable Cloverbud program and volunteer base. The member will also work with youth in grades 7-12 as a mentor and trainer. This will entail helping the older youth to prepare for becoming camp counselors in two settings: day camps with youth K-3 and resident camp with youth in grades 4-6.
