2017 Summer Associates at School on Wheels, Inc.

The mission of School on Wheels, Inc. is the enhancement of educational opportunities for homeless children from kindergarten through the twelfth grade (K-12). Our goal is to shrink the gaps in their education and provide them with the highest level of education possible. Our program serves as a consistent support system to homeless students at a time of great stress and fear. We bring the message to our students that they are cared about and important. In order to better achieve our mission, Summer Associates will provide one-on-one and group tutoring, providing academic and enrichment activities to homeless students in K-12 at our Skid Row Learning Center in Los Angeles, California from June 5 to August 13, 2017. Summer Associates should ideally have tutoring or teaching experience in multiple grade levels and subjects, especially at the elementary and middle school levels. Summer Associates will also assist with supervising students on field trips once a week, coordinate activities at our Skid Row Digital Learning Center and engage in capacity building through recruiting volunteers and encouraging applicant follow-through. We are excited to welcome our 3rd Summer Associate cohort this year.
