Green Star Recycling - Job Training Program (Fairbanks)
 
 
 
Green Star plans to expand their Special Events Recycling program beyond the level that our current volunteer pool will support. The VISTA will assist with recruiting a pool of unemployed, low-income residents interested in part-time, temporary jobs that will foster economic development. The program will also provide job training for those who need to work off court-ordered community service hours in a safe, supportive environment. This program will reinforce good work habits and build positive relationships in the community. Green Star aims to utilize candidates ignored by other employers, so that low-income residents will gain valuable job experience and learn job skills that will increase their employability.

Member Duties : The VISTA would assist Green Star with developing a program that will foster economic development, creates jobs, builds job skills in residents, and markets the social responsibility of recycling to special event organizers in Fairbanks. The VISTA will also pursue new event venues and opportunities. He or she will research and pursue grant-funding opportunities that would allow Green Star to obtain needed materials for the job training program. The Special Events Recycling program provides a needed service at our community’s special events, and will also assist low-income residents become more employable.
