Wrangell Institute for Science & Environment (Copper Ctr)

Wrangell Institute for Science and Environment (WISE) is dedicated to teaching science and environmental education. The VISTA will help WISE to become more self-sustaining so that the programs remain open to all community members and to expand its reach. The VISTA will be working towards 4 objectives: Marketing/PR, Program Development/Capacity Building, Sustainable Fundraising, Community and Donor Outreach. Please be aware that due to difficult winter climate and back country environment of the community, applicants with strong outdoor backgrounds will be given priority. Applicants should consider if they are willing to spend a full year (365 days) in service to a remote community without many of the luxuries afforded in other communities. Applicants are required to have their own vehicle. Benefits include: Monthly living allowance ($1,222), relocation costs ($0.34/mile up to $1,000) and settling in allowance ($550) for members moving 50+ miles, health benefits, child care assistance, training, and an Education Award ($5,730) or cash stipend ($1,200). *Please be aware that relocation travel to the area for those flying/driving is done on a reimbursement basis up to $1,000. You must be able to front this cost or can request a government issued airline ticket be purchased for you.
