*PRC Gallatin Valley Food Bank

According to the Gallatin County 2014 Community Health Needs Assessment, 19.6% of the total area adults report that it is “very” or “somewhat” difficult for them to access affordable, fresh fruits and vegetables, and the 2018 Community Health Assessment for Gallatin County lists Mental Health and Substance Abuse as well as Chronic Disease Prevention as two of the key findings for improvement in the Health of our community. This VISTA Project will increase access to food resources and health care services for low income and at-risk youth by increasing participation in the Learning Garden Program, a community garden program that provides mental health and substance use, including opioid abuse, prevention services to the participating youth. This project will help alleviate poverty by increasing regional and household level food security by providing the educational and experiential aspects of gardening, and providing access to healthcare resources to youth of low income families.
