* PRC - Youth Connections

It takes resources to effectively combat the problem of substance abuse, including opioid abuse, among students. In rural communities and towns, oftentimes the largest resources available are churches and other faith based organizations. Churches and faith based organizations are often financially stable, have a dedicated set of volunteers, and are in a position to meet children where they are at in their community. A 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Survey found that 35.89% of county high school students reported drinking alcohol at least once ,and 23.98% of county high school students reported smoking marijuana in the previous 30 days. From community assessment completed earlier, no faith communities provide substance use prevention programs in Helena. For these reasons, This VISTA project will expand outreach to engage the faith community, and get churches more involved in substance abuse prevention for Helena's students. Located in beautiful Helena, Montana’s state capital and the “Queen City of the Rockies,” the VISTA serving with Area IV Agency on Aging will have easy access to Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks, an expansive trail system, and endless opportunities to explore the outdoors through hiking, biking, fishing, and skiing in the heart of Big Sky Country! Join PRC VISTA and help us prevent Medicare waste, fraud, and abuse in Montana!
