Healthy Choices AmeriCorps
 
 
 
Serve in partnership with schools to improve student success by increasing attendance and pro-social behaviors. RESPONSIBILITIES •Support school-based mentor program and mentor youth •Lead recess, lunch, and after school activities: clubs and team-building •Help school employees organize materials, schedule, and spread the word to students/families about pro-social behavior; support school-wide reward program •Help lead school-wide activities: school assemblies, fairs, and educational events to help students make healthy choices •Support volunteer programs; strengthen school/community relations by recruiting and retaining volunteers •Participate in local and school-based service events; help produce appreciation activities •Track services related to performance measures •Attend supervision and work cooperatively with school personnel: School Social Worker, Counselor, School Nurse, Teacher, and other staff involved with school youth •Professional development meetings •Develop work plan with school site supervisor QUALIFICATIONS •Passion for national and community service •Effective communication: writing and editing; comfortable speaking to groups •Excellent organization skills; effective time management; meet competing demands; reliable; punctual •Flexible, adaptable, positive attitude to learning •Ability to work independently and as part of a team •Commitment to youth development; Experience with children 5-17 preferred •Experience with/desire to work with diverse people, organizations and communities •BA/BS (Education, Social Work, Health) preferred •Bilingual/Bicultural a plus •Must be U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the U.S. SERVICE REQUIREMENTS •Not current SFUSD Employee •Commit to 1700 hours of service, 40 hrs per week •Complete AmeriCorps documentation and reporting •Complete community service projects •Attend trainings to build skills/knowledge about school communities
