College Health Corps, North Hennepin Community College

North Hennepin Community College’s (NHCC) mission is “Engaging students. Changing Lives.” Our goal is to help students succeed in their academic, personal and professional endeavors. Our growing population of underserved students are facing significant health and societal barriers to achieving these accomplishments. The percent of NHCC students identified as Pell eligible, an indicator of low-income status, has increased from 23 percent in 2006 to approximately 45 percent in 2015. Students who are low-income face barriers that may impede or delay their academic success or time to completion. NHCC believes that providing health education for students and building awareness about other viable resources helps them build resiliency and strength to achieve their life goals. But we cannot do it alone. It is imperative that NHCC work with community partners. NHCC recently opened two on-campus, non-academic support services for students: a health clinic and Community Connections Resource Center. These services connect students with resources in and around the Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center areas. The VISTA will help NHCC build and strengthen such community partnerships. ---This project is part of the College Health Corps (CHC) VISTA Program, operated by Minnesota Campus Compact. The CHC increases low-income individuals’ access to health care, health education, food, and basic needs through capacity building projects, including partnerships between higher education and community based organizations. Professional development focuses on health equity, the social determinants of health, and effective partnership development. --- ***Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor . Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early.***
