MNA 2017 - Alternatives For Girls #1

As a VISTA with Alternatives for Girls (AFG), you’ll make sure girls in Detroit have information about scholarships and educational preparation programs, assist with connecting education resources to the families of girls who are in rolled in a college savings program, and develop a tracking system for recording academic improvement. Compared to Michigan as a whole, almost twice as many Detroiters have not completed high school and only 13.1% of the city has a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Much of the work of the VISTA will ultimately assist AFG in helping girls and young women realize college is a viable option for them and illuminating for them that they have the potential to succeed once there.
