*PRC – Area IV Agency on Aging

Over $70 million is lost each year in Montana due to waste, fraud and abuse in Medicare. This VISTA project will provide targeted opioid prevention, use, and proper disposal to low income seniors as they learn how to best reduce Medicare fraud. A barrier exists in meeting the needs in the communities within rural counties across Montana due to the distance, and therefore isolation, of the rural areas. Montana is a large state with 147,040 square miles, 145,248 of which are rural. Volunteers are needed to provided the skills, tools and resources necessary to meet the needs of the communities and people they serve, and providing the needed training has proved difficult in these rural areas. Since the year 2000, the rate of prescription drug overdose deaths has doubled in Montana. According to data compiled by the DPHHS Injury Prevention Program, the age range with the highest risk of overdose is between 60-69 years old, the age frame in which people sign up for Medicaid. Located in beautiful Helena, Montana’s state capital and the “Queen City of the Rockies,” the VISTA serving with Area IV Agency on Aging will have easy access to Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks, an expansive trail system, and endless opportunities to explore the outdoors through hiking, biking, fishing, and skiing in the heart of Big Sky Country! Join PRC VISTA and help us prevent Medicare waste, fraud, and abuse in Montana!
