This AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate position is hosted by Franklinton Farms (FF). FF is a 2.5 acre nonprofit urban farm that is dedicated to growing and sharing food, creating beauty, and building community with neighbors. FF operates a network of food production sites, manages a community food distribution system, and hosts various educational programs and community events. The VISTA Summer Associate will assist with building and maintaining Franklinton Farms Urban Farm, and assisting with distribution of Franklinton Farms produce throughout Franklinton and Columbus. Distribution of our produce to undeserved members of our community is a priority. Qualifications: Interest in urban farming, environmental sustainability and community building; Commitment to equitable community for all people; Capacity to execute tasks independently and as part of a team; Experience working with vulnerable populations; Ability to engage in strenuous work 40-hours/week, in the sun, during the summer. Member Duties : Americorps VISTA Summer Associates members will serve with the Franklinton Farms Farm Manager on all projects related to urban farming and neighborhood produce distribution. Members will assist in the following: harvesting and rinsing of produce; production bed preparation; planting; irrigation; weeding; pest management; maintenance of farm equipment and irrigation systems; light construction; new garden development; farmers markets and farm stands; neighborhood produce delivery; and all other tasks related to building and maintaining a community-based urban farm. Additionally, Summer Associates will assist with door to door community outreach and promotion.
