2018-19 ReadingCorps

As an RAI Reading Corps Member, you will start with an extensive Orton-Gillingham based training program taught by our staff. You’ll learn the basics of how children learn to read and how to explicitly teach the foundational skills to students most at risk for reading failure. Students will come to see you as a tutor, as a teacher, as a mentor and as a dependable presence in their lives. The Reading Assist Intervention Program is accredited by IMSLEC (International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council) and Reading Corps members will have the opportunity to finish the year as certified Reading Assist Interventionists. Ongoing training continues in the form of weekly learning communities, giving you the opportunity to connect with other Reading Corps members and refine your skills as you work with your students. We seek passionate, capable people willing to serve both students and the community. You do not need teaching experience, but you do need a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in any subject. Reading Corps members will be assigned six students in grades 1-3 who need intensive intervention to master the foundational skills of reading. You’ll prepare lessons and work one-to-one with each student for 45 minutes during the school day as they progress systemically through the intervention program. We partner with several schools, many in the Colonial School District in New Castle, DE.
