Disaster Cycle Services, AmeriCorps Disaster Team
 
 
 
The AmeriCorps members who serve in the Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) department will assist their local territories with the development and the growth of our disaster services program. Members will prepare community members for disasters, respond to local and state-wide emergencies, and support the recovery of community members who have been affected by disasters. Members will serve approximately 40 hours per week for a total of 900 service hours in a 5.5-month term. Benefits include a bi-weekly stipend of $782.61, health and dental coverage, and childcare assistance to those who qualify. Upon successful completion, members will receive a combined education award of $3,172.50 to use towards qualified student loans, or future tuition, and may qualify for federal student loan forbearance during the period of service.

Member Duties : We are looking for self-motivated and passionate individuals to join the AmeriCorps Disaster Team. The member placed in Disaster Cycle Services is responsible for preparing community members for disasters through delivering preparedness trainings, participating in Sound the Alarm events, and responding to local emergencies. Responsibilities also include recruiting, training, and overseeing volunteers. Members of the Disaster Team are required to deploy at the behest of the California Service Commission for as many as three weeks at a time and within 48 hours' notice. All expenses are covered.
