American Legion Auxiliary - Arkansas Field Site
 
 
 
Approximately 1.4 million (5.9%) of the 23.7 million veterans in the United States are living in poverty along with thousands of military families in the same plight. In a concentrated effort to help alleviate poverty among military service members, military veterans, and their families, the American Legion Auxiliary Call to Service Corps VISTA project will develop and implement training, technical assistance strategies, tools and resources to mobilize volunteers in service targeted to poverty alleviation by and for military and veteran families. The ideal Field Site candidates will have a passion that drives them to help enable others to take up the ALA Call to Service Corps cause. QUALIFICATIONS: A relevant BA/BS degree (degree can be substituted with relevant and equivalent work experience). Excellent written and oral communication skills; Ability to facilitate group meetings for input, information and follow up; Strong public speaking skills; Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with persons of all socioeconomic backgrounds; Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, integrity, diplomacy, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and mature judgment: Able to manage multiple projects, handle details with accuracy, meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality; Creative problem solver; Ability to work independently while functioning effectively in a team environment; Strong computer skills with efficiency in MS Office. Member Duties : The Arkansas VISTA member located in Little Rock, Arkansas will partner with 11 other VISTA members throughout the United States and with 8 other VISTA members in Volunteer Development, Program Development, Partnership and Fund Development, Communications, and Management Information System Development assigned to the ALA National Headquarters office in Indianapolis, IN. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES and ACTIVITIES: Work with VISTA supervisors and members to research, develop, train, and implement the volunteer recruitment, retention and engagement (VRRE) campaign and all other new service programs developed by the ALA Call to Service Corps; conduct research with the departments and units as directed by VISTA supervisors; use tools developed and provided by the project to conduct pilot programs; train ALA departments and units using new tools created by the ALA National Headquarters VISTA team; help ALA departments and units implement the VRRE and various other new service programs
