Program Coordinator VISTA

S.W.E.A.T. South Wichita Economic Action Team serves low income families and students in South Central Wichita, KS. We engage residents frequently and provide services for families and children of formerly incarcerated parents. We work with school age children who attend schools in our neighborhood that are some of Kansas lowest performing schools. We are working to alleviate the problem of homelessness for families, absenteeism and truancy for students. Many students are not advancing along with their peers because of broken homes, drug addicitons and unemployment of parents and guardians. We utilize our space to feed, clothe, tutor, educate and offer employment from time to time. We want to grow our capacity to support families, increase literacy and attendance and reduce truancy of students. Service as an AmeriCorps VISTA will enable us to build systems that will empower us to reach more families.
