AmeriCorps Steward - Nursery

This position will be based in the SER-UW Native Plant Nursery, a student-led nursery at the University of Washington. The target beneficiary population are university students who are interested or potentially interested in environmental careers. The nursery provides opportunities for these individuals to participate in the production of native plants. The AmeriCorps Steward - Nursery will oversee regular activities within the SER-UW Native Plant Nursery, including training students, overseeing the work of student interns and volunteers, watering plants, plant propagation, monitoring plant health, public plant sales, and sales to courses and other UW-related entities. They will engage in public outreach which may involve developing and teaching native plant-oriented classes and collaborating with other area nurseries. They will also help create strategies to make the nursery more efficient and sustainable. Through these activities, the AmeriCorps member will contribute to a healthier environment and help community members better understand and connect with nature.

Member Duties : This AmeriCorps member will coordinate and supervise a range of activities for university students and volunteers, using hands-on learning and lesson plans, to grow native plants used in environmental restoration and to increase native plants in urban environments. Specifically, this member will serve as the Nursery Manager for the SER-UW native plant nursery. They will be expected to maintain relationships with existing volunteer bases and organizational partners, in addition to exploring additional ways to connect with the community at large.
