Amplify STEM

The AmpliFY STEM Program is an innovative afterschool initiative serving immigrant and refugee youth aged 10-21 through engaging Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics education combined with comprehensive academic and English language support. Operating across multiple community sites including schools, community centers, and the ICRI facility, the program addresses critical educational gaps while fostering STEM interest and achievement. AmeriCorps Youth Education Specialists serve as the backbone of this program, each managing caseloads of 10-15 youth through both small group afterschool sessions and individualized one-on-one meetings. Members design and deliver hands-on STEM activities that promote curiosity and engagement while providing targeted academic support tailored to each student's educational needs and language proficiency level. Key program components include conducting comprehensive intake assessments with youth and families, maintaining detailed records of student progress and program outcomes, and conducting regular surveys to measure interest and growth. The program emphasizes family engagement by assisting parents in accessing academic records and keeping them informed of their child's development. Sessions occur one to two times weekly at various community locations, with flexible scheduling to accommodate school calendars and family needs. The program's culturally responsive approach recognizes the unique challenges faced by immigrant and refugee families while building bridges to educational success. The program's ultimate goal is empowering youth to excel academically while developing confidence in STEM fields, creating pathways to higher education and career success
