Good Food For All! Pellissippi State VISTA Project

This VISTA, based in Knoxville, TN, will strengthen UT/TSU Knox County Extension's K-14 urban agriculture and nutrition education programming and volunteer management system to create new opportunities, especially for teens, and especially involving PSCC students in volunteer capacities. The fruition of the service year will be the creation of an exciting new summer teen training program centered on youth gardening, urban agriculture, and entrepreneurship. VISTA will assess and augment UT/TSU Knox County Extension youth gardening practices; develop a teen training program and a participant recognition ceremony; revise policies, procedures, and documents to improve the reach, effectiveness, and sustainability of K-14 programming; develop materials and processes for volunteer recruitment, training, evaluation, and celebration of volunteer activities; and plan/execute events linking PSCC & UT/TSU Knox County Extension and other educational institutions, community partners, and neighborhood students/families. VISTA will have a work station at 400 W. Main Ave., Suite 560 Knoxville, TN 37902-2411 and possibly also at Knoxville Botanical Garden & Arboretum, 2743 Wimpole Ave, Knoxville, TN 37914

Member Duties : 1.Develop materials to assist with awareness and appreciation of youth gardening, urban ag teen training and entrepreneurship and work-share programming, utilizing PSCC Service-Learning students as needed to accomplish goals. 2.Develop processes for tracking and referring hunger needs of individuals involved in programming. 3.Inform PSCC professors seeking to connect their students/courses with the UT/TSU Knox County Extension activities. 4.Co-create a youth gardening/teen training & recognition program. 5.Create an augmented youth gardening, teen training, and work-share program Manual 6.Plan/execute youth-teen training opportunities as tie-ins with PSCC's Good Food For All! Initiative and its educational goals. 7.Present/guide others to present on youth gardening, urban ag teen training & entrepreneurship. 8.Plan/design additional UT/TSU Knox County Extension programming as needed addressing hunger literacy/nutrition education, especially for entrepreneurial teens.
