*PRC- Gallatin Valley Food Bank

Skipping dinner, eating less, or eating less well – this is what thousands of people in Gallatin Valley face every day. The Gallatin Valley Food Bank is the critical link between food and the people who need it. Food insecurity impacts people from all walks of life and we reach all of them, from working families to senior citizens. The Gallatin Valley Food Bank’s (GVFB) Mission is to improve food security throughout Southwest Montana and decrease the number of youth struggling with hunger. The GVFB is one of the Food and Nutrition programs of the Human Resource Development Council, a community action agency. GVFB envisions an improved regional food system that addresses barriers and risks and increases access to good foods across Montana. GVFB provides emergency food services, nutritional programs, summer lunches and a pay-what-you-can community café. GVFB aspires to create a teaching garden in public parks to contribute to healthy futures and provide fun hands-on youth education leading to a decrease in school drop-out rates. This VISTA project will increase access to healthy foods for low-income youth by developing a teaching garden that will generate interest in the production and use of nutritious foods.
