* PRC – No Kid Hungry Great Falls

In Montana, one in five children struggle with hunger. PRC VISTAs serving with Montana No Kid Hungry are dedicated to putting an end to child hunger by improving food access and increasing participation in school meal programs. PRC VISTAs serving with Montana No Kid Hungry partner with school districts—in this case, the Great Falls Public School District—to develop the food service program’s capacity to increase student access to school breakfast, afterschool meals, summer food service sites, and other community food access programs. Located in central Montana, Great Falls is a city steeped in tradition where you can experience the rich heritage of the American West, with easy access to exceptional outdoor recreational opportunities, cultural amenities, wild rivers, vast mountains, and the sprawling plains. To end child hunger, we need you to serve in Great Falls!

Member Duties : The overall goal of this project is to increase food access for low-income students in Great Falls and surrounding school districts by expanding school breakfast programs, summer meal programs, afterschool meal programs, and other food access projects. To do this, the VISTA will: conduct an assessment to understand the barriers preventing participation in school meal programs; develop a strategic plan and implement a “Breakfast after the Bell” model in Great Falls Sunnyside Elementary, Lewis and Clark Elementary, and C.M. Russell High School; create a strategic plan to increase access to summer meal programs; construct a strategic plan for introducing an after-school meal program, and; implement “The Family Dinner Project” community events to benefit low-income children and their families.
