Achievement First Attendance Coordinator VISTA (Rhode Island

The Achievement First network of schools serves approximately 15,000 students in NY, CT, and RI. Achievement First schools run K-12 and offer students from all backgrounds a quality college-bound education. You will not find a more dedicated group of staff, students, and families, all working to get amazing kids to and through college. The Achievement First Attendance Coordinator VISTA role can be in person or telecommute. This VISTA will work with an individual school in the beautiful and diverse city of Providence, RI to help support strong student attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism. Attendance is one of the most important factors to success in the school environment. You can't learn if you're not in the school building to get the high quality daily instruction. Getting students into school every day is a crucial factor in future success. Students who fall into chronic absenteeism are much more likely to struggle with absenteeism for the rest of their school careers. Students who struggle with absenteeism also tend to struggle with their grades and have higher dropout rates. That is why this position has such a huge potential for impact, helping keep students on track with their attendance and helping students who are off track get back on track. In addition, this position gets to work on a great school team, with great students, in an amazing city.

Member Duties : This position will help develop tools and strategies to build the capacity of the school to serve the attendance needs of its scholars. Every day, the school generates attendance data which this position will then use to identify trends. Then this role will lead a team of staff members whose job it is to incentivize consistent attendance and troubleshoot chronic absence trends. This role analyzes data, plans incentives, and plans interventions for chronic absences, all while working with a strong team of high performers and a whole school of great kids.
