Improving Academic Success for Urban Students
 
 
 
The AmeriCorps members will work in classrooms alongside a certified teacher during the school day and design and provide engaging, experiential learning activities during afterschool hours that bridge in school and out of school learning. Members will build safe and supportive relationships with students and engage them in school and during out of school time activities to develop lifelong learners. The goal is to decrease absenteeism and improve academic outcomes.

Member Duties : Working in the classroom and during afterschool time, AmeriCorps members will: -Support the teacher by assisting with small group instruction and activities -Develop relationships with students and faculty to enable planning for appropriate and meaningful afterschool activities -Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to decrease absenteeism, improve academic outcomes and engage students in learning Participate in professional development to: -Foster work with MLL students and students with diverse learning styles -Develop skills on addressing behaviors in and out of the classroom -Develop skills in program development and curriculum -Gain skills and understanding of youth development at various ages During out of school time programs: -Provide homework help during transition times -Maintain attendance logs -Assist in preparation of daily curriculum -Deliver daily activities -Act as liaison with students' families -Recruit volunteers for the program and HCS
