Campus Compact VISTA at UW Parkside

UW-Parkside and the Shalom Center’s Pantry are working on creating sustainable solutions to not only fight hunger but also ensure everyone is being served in a way that is fair and promotes self-sufficiency. Key elements of this project will consist of conducting research and evaluation of the largest food pantry in Kenosha. This is a unique opportunity to research and develop the first real emergency food plan for low-income college students at UW Parkside. We’re looking for a VISTA to join our team and help strengthen our efforts in the community. As you learn more about the various community food programs and resources, you will work side by side with partners fighting hunger to make sure the word is getting out. This includes creating targeted, inclusive marketing/outreach plans for the Shalom Center and UW Parkside and creating partnerships. Our Ideal member will be someone who has great communication skills and some marketing knowledge. This role will help reduce food insecurity for many in Kenosha County. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $675.08. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide Lunch and dinner at Shalom Center Soup Kitchen during the week and professional development on campus. The AmeriCorps member serving at UW Parkside will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and to share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person training including overnight retreats throughout their service year. If you would like to learn more about serving with Campus Compact, please email our VISTA Leaders at vista@compact.org.
