Casa Verde Builders

Casa Verde Builders AmeriCorps Members will participate in the construction, repair and weatherization of affordable, energy and resource efficient homes in targeted neighborhoods of Austin. Members will serve under the supervision of construction professionals to build homes, which will be sold to qualified low-income families. These homes will be energy efficient and will utilize building materials, which, to the greatest extent possible, are sustainable. Corps members may work on construction projects in Texas parks & Historical sites to improve the quality of public lands for local communities.

Member Duties : As part of Casa Verde Builders (CVB), corpsmembers will receive construction training in National Center for Construction Education and Research core curriculum, OSHA 10, & CPR/First Aid. Crews will work on new construction, weatherization & home repair projects for low-income/elderly residents, tiny home construction for chronically homeless individuals at Mobile Loaves & Fishes, and a park ranger home in a local state park. Members will assist as crew leaders of our YouthBuild crews, helping to organize & lead projects. CVB members will perform strenuous physical tasks outdoors in all types of weather. Members will be using hand/power tools:hammers, saws, drills, shovels & spray rigs, and may carry heavy material. They may be asked to climb ladders & scaffolding, work on roofs or in cramped spaces.
