Improving Access to Healthcare for Youth with Epilepsy

As New England’s largest safety net hospital, Boston Medical Center (BMC) serves a primarily medically under-served population experiencing high health disparities. The Telehealth Epilepsy Care Collaborative at BMC works to understand, prevent and creatively disrupt barriers to medical care for over 2,500 children and youth with a seizure disorder in Eastern Massachusetts. Along with our team of clinicians, researchers, patient advocates and other AmeriCorps service members, this VISTA will work to develop family and patient engagement and skill-building opportunities with the intention of centering their perspectives in the work of improving access to pediatric epilepsy care. This position is ideal for a candidate who has a passion for improving health care for low-income communities, clinical care, social work, community education, working with children and youth, and/or neuroscience. The VISTA volunteer should be highly motivated, collaborative, proactive, and organized, with excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to work with a wide range of social, racial, and ethnic populations.
