HCAP Volunteer and Program Support
 
 
 
The VISTA selected must have skills in the following areas: problem solving, building collaborative relationships and partnerships, decision-making, organization, computer and technology and strong written and verbal communication. The VISTA's primary office space will be at the HCAP Main Office in downtown Honolulu. There is on-site parking (for a fee), with additional parking on the street and in nearby municipal and private parking garages. The Main Office is also located the Bus Line. The VISTA may also work from the Ha Initiative Exploration Centers, HCAP’s District Service Centers, and community partner locations throughout Oahu. Tasks at these locations will include site observations, meeting with staff and volunteers, trainings, and volunteer recruitment. The VISTA will be accompanied by the Program Manager for some of the off-site events. In instances when the VISTA must travel separately, HCAP will provide reimbursement for miles traveled in the VISTA’s personally owned and registered vehicle, or round trip bus fare. AmeriCorps VISTAs serve a one-year (40hrs/wk) term. Training and supervision will be provided. Compensation includes a living stipend of up to $19,800/ year and upon completion of service, an educational award of $5,500 or a stipend of $1,500. Applicants eligible for AmeriCorps must pass an FBI background check and be available to begin service in August 2015.

Member Duties : The VISTA will assist in developing curriculum and lesson plans, developing an evaluation system, and continue implementation of the volunteer support program for the Ha Initiative: Creative STEM After-School Program. The goal of the project is to develop curriculum and increase family and community volunteer involvement in an after-school program for at-risk elementary and middle school students on Oahu. Activities include: • Developing sustainable practices for volunteer recruitment and training. • Researching and developing appropriate lesson plans and curriculum. • Creating evaluations and system for distributing & collecting quarterly evaluations. • Continue developing sustainable partnerships with local agencies, schools, and colleges from which to draw a steady volunteer corps.
